LL to close Teen Grid

The Lab is closing the teen grid in December. The Dimond High School island is on the teen grid and will have to move. From what I understand talking with the lindens, the island will get moved to the main grid but will still be only accessible by accounts made for it unless I unlock it. This actually will be a great benefit as I can lock it while school is in session or classes are going on and then unlock it for demonstrations or exhibitions. No matter what, my accounts for students will only…See More

a 2nd Life for SLED-AK virtual AK education site?

Hi again. This Thursday, July 29 at least by 7pm AK time and easily to 7:30pm, I'm going to be at the SL virtual Alaska site over to the north from the NOAA Alaska crab fishing site and their virtual sandbox. If you have not been there for a while, check it out and stop by and say hi. I would be glad of any thoughts or creative support on that site or a sharing of any other creative Alaskan educational projects.Sara AKA Seleniris PearlSee More

SLED-AK 2ndLife Alaskan educators gettogether at SL virtual Alaska site as part of NOAAs SIMs by tlingit clanhouse

July 29, 2010 from 7pm to 7:30pm
How about we get together again in second life at the NOAA virtual AK site to reconnect and share info on who's doing what these days? Thursday July 29th at 7pm AK time. I've been working on the SLife AK site a bit and would of course welcome input from others. I will be working with Chype on his University open sim a bit later this fall. Would like to get into some animation, if anyone out there has experience they could share with me.Also, anyone have any newbie Alaskan educators to invite in…See More

Open Sim Imprudence

I have maybe 3 minutes per week to devote to anything relating to virtual worlds. This I regret. I maintain an interest in virtual worlds only because I think eventually I may experience an instructional/educational breakthrough with the medium.Through the assistance of my colleague, Mark Dubin, in Colorado, I have an OpenSim using the Imprudence SL client. The grid is called virtualUAS. I invite anyone to come, visit, build stuff. I just need a username/password, just like in SL and I can set…See More

Hello everyone, any good projects going on?I saw Eric's LHC simulator a few months back and it was very nice. I have been to many ISTE Tuesday talks. The ASD Edtech Island hosted some gatherings to build a community of educators. The island is transitioning to be a resource for all of Alaska.See More

What's new in the SLED world?

The ASD SecondLife community is progressing. What else is happening?
Is the Alaska island from NOAA being finished? Is it worked on?
When will the next meeting of SLED-AK?
How is everyone's NEW YEAR!

OpenSim

I heard a rumor that you folks were working in OpenSim. We at NOAA also have an OpenSim grid up and running and have transferred some of the content we developed for Alaska into that environment. Anyone interested in playing?

What Julie is doing in SL...

This summer PWSCC bought 2 islands. One is a homestead to be used for the natural history of PWS. I have put in a lot of work on it. There are no buildings only plants, animals & natural features. I didn't get it done 'enough' to have my natural history students (Biol v104) work on it this year but will next year. However, I will be using their natural history notes from the blog they did as notecards for specific species. I just had my Biol V105 (majors biology) students work through the… Continue

What Chip is doing in SL

This summer, 2009, I employed a talented and motivated high school senior to build an Aleut barabara in Second Life. I was interested in her learning curve for this activity and how much she might gain from the experience.

I had her document the time she spent; time to learn Second Life from scratch, on her own, time to learn about barabaras, time to create the barabara, and how she felt she benefited from the experience.… Continue

Wondering About Clan House Builder

Who is Seleniris Pearl? I just saw the clan house out on Second Earth 8 and was blown away. Great job! Love the sea otters and spawning salmon too. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Second%20Earth%208/169/22/22/

Open Sim

It is my understanding Open Sim has all the tools, minus the fees, and no barrier between teen and adult grids as in SL. There are shortcomings, of course, but real advantages to the Open Sim. Does anyone want to comment?

And "Yes" to Wade's suggestion.
