I heard a rumor that you folks were working in OpenSim. We at NOAA also have an OpenSim grid up and running and have transferred some of the content we developed for Alaska into that environment. Anyone interested in playing?

Yea, great work, Julie. It is wonderful to see - or at least hear about - what you are doing. Like Wade said, can we come for a visit?

Welcome

Whether you've been working in Second Life for years, or have just heard about it for the first time and want to learn more, this is the place to share your projects, find help, search for answers, and share ideas with others around the state.

If you're new to the community, you can start contributing by writing your own blog posts, sharing photos, or commenting on posts by other members. If you're creating/sharing resources in Second Life, please link the SLURLs so we can take a look!

Be sure and join the group in Second Life too by searching for SLED-Alaska.

What Julie is doing in SL...

This summer PWSCC bought 2 islands. One is a homestead to be used for the natural history of PWS. I have put in a lot of work on it. There are no buildings only plants, animals & natural features. I didn't get it done 'enough' to have my natural history students (Biol v104) work on it this year but will next year. However, I will be using their natural history notes from the blog they did as notecards for specific species. I just had my Biol V105 (majors biology) students work through the st… Continue

What Chip is doing in SL

This summer, 2009, I employed a talented and motivated high school senior to build an Aleut barabara in Second Life. I was interested in her learning curve for this activity and how much she might gain from the experience.

I had her document the time she spent; time to learn Second Life from scratch, on her own, time to learn about barabaras, time to create the barabara, and how she felt she benefited from the experience.… Continue

Wondering About Clan House Builder

Who is Seleniris Pearl? I just saw the clan house out on Second Earth 8 and was blown away. Great job! Love the sea otters and spawning salmon too. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Second%20Earth%208/169/22/22/

Open Sim

It is my understanding Open Sim has all the tools, minus the fees, and no barrier between teen and adult grids as in SL. There are shortcomings, of course, but real advantages to the Open Sim. Does anyone want to comment?

And "Yes" to Wade's suggestion.

summer break...what now?

Hello SLED-Alaska,
I have been sort of away from SL for the summer, but with school starting again I would like to get back together and brainstorm what we as a group would like to accomplish. So if we could list what has been happening, and what we plan on doing, and what would be a good meeting schedule then we can see what the interest is, and what direction we can take.
